Coney Island Flying Fish

No idea what kind of fish this is, but it looked like it had wings. We asked the guy what kind it was, and he told us but I forget details. He was happy to hold it up though.
Seriously… what kind of fish is this?

This is one of my favorites. I love everything about the picture. It has commercial appeal as well.

The framing and choice of DOF here are classic. Really nice.

I don’t know if the colors are correct but it looks like a Variegate Darter. Here’s the link http://pond.dnr.cornell.edu/nyfish/Percidae/variegate_darter.html

Wonderful shot. Everything working to grand perfection. The way the fish’s flipper (fin? wing?) is banded by the white and set apart from the dark background is great, as is the shine of the fisherman’s rings against his skin. I’d like to look at this more.

what are they putting in the water in Brooklyn? wow. Seriously though, this photo is fantastic. I wish I could get these kind of crisp tones with my B&W photos. Well done.

Wow, I had no idea we had those off of the Coney Island Pier. That looks like it’s about to hop on land and start walking…
