Sweet Auburn Trumpets

Stacy and I drove down to the Sweet Auburn neighborhood on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It was a surreal experience, especially after all of the specials on the History Channel.

So these four guys were playing back and forth in pairs down the street from the Ebenezer Baptist Church where Dr. King grew up and was a pastor. As we got down there, they were putting away their horns and they noticed my camera. They were willing to play a little more for a few shots, and all of the traffic on the sidewalk waited until we were finished.

Tree Tent

It took me a couple of weeks to find the right Christmas Tree tent/farm. Originally I had a Christmas tree farm in mind because that’s where we used to go when I was growing up. But it just so happened that I came across this place, in the middle of town a few days before Christmas, that was just right. The light was great, tent was cool and the lightbulbs were exactly what I wanted. And I had driven around for an hour before finding this place. I’m glad I didn’t give up.

Monolith

This is some kind of government building in downtown Atlanta, just a few blocks from the state Capitol building. I’ve seen it several times from Interstate 20 when it’s lit up all bright at night. So I went over there one night and waited for 30 minutes for the light to come on. Never did. I’ll go back.

I watched Memoirs of a Geisha last night with my wife. Actually, she watched it, I just saw it… I couldn’t tell you the plot to save my life. But I did see one thing: this movie is breathtaking. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such a beautiful film in my life. We rented it from this $1-a-day DVD dispenser machines at Kroger, but I actually think I’d like to buy it. If you haven’t seen it, you should, if only for the visuals. Maybe now I’ll actually have to watch it.
