Carter, Ryan & Jarvis
by Walker Pickering

This was taken a couple of months ago. For those of you up North, this is an example of our winter clothing. I think this was shot in December. The little guy on the left is my brother, Carter, who turned 8 in January. His two friends, Ryan and Jarvis, live down the street. They’re all good kids… and quite patient, I might add.
BTW, is anyone here an incredible writer? There’s a grant I’d like to pursue, and I’d need a writer to pair with to be eligible. You probably know what I’m talking about if you’re a great writer and you like photography. But maybe not. Let me know.

Really beautiful. The short DOF in that camera is amazing. They don’t look too thrilled, especially your brother. Makes me think of old portraits where everyone would put on a grave face.
If that’s winter clothing, what do you wear at summer? Leaves?
Cool picture man.
Mats, in the Summer, you just don’t go out. =)
I really like the picture and their sour faces. My wife just looks over my shoulder and coments that the background interferes a bit. I guess. I like it though.
Superb, the shadow is at a perfect angle.
Good luck with your grant, my writing skills are about as hot as a canadian winter.
Fantastic. The DOF is perfect for this and I’m taken by what I assume to be unintentional underlying aggression.
Well, these *are* little “tough guys”, after all. =)
Great picture. I like the background faded, as it reminds me of when I was little and met the neighborhood boys at the corner to cross the street to the park and play ball.
The pink wash here looks fabulous. But these boys — and I’m sure they’re great kids — look like they’re about to go beat someone senseless.
terrific!
I love this. I’m a sucker for a subtle (and not so subtle) mixture of symmetry and asymmetry in a photograph. Also, I’m following the instructions on your links page by commenting. I like links that open in a new window, by the way.
Wow!
Your monochrome portrait series are so impressive!
so very cool. i love the stern look, the colors, the composition and the general feel of the this shot.
I love your portraits man!
Inspiring shot…this series of portraits just drives home to me what I’m not doing, shooting enough people! Phil
