Stove

We drove forever to get to this ghost town only to find that there were tons of people already there. One of the houses had burned down within the last few months, so I decided to step through the fence for a closer shot of this stove. I ripped the crotch out of my shorts in the process. It was a day filled with adventure.

Georgetown, Colorado

Georgetown, Colorado

We drove 20 miles through the mountains on very rough terrain just to get to this place. It was pretty beautiful from above, but a little touristy down in the town. Still, a nice place to visit.

Uncle Ron

Uncle Ron

This was at lunch one day while we were in Colorado. We were visiting a little town in the mountains called Georgetown. Ron is actually Stacy’s uncle, but I guess he’s mine too by marriage.

Outside Boulder

Outside Boulder

As we were leaving Boulder one day, it was raining pretty hard. I’m pretty sure a lot of people stop at this same point to take pictures of this valley and the “hills” (their words not mine… anything taller than 100 feet is a mountain in Texas [in my mind]). But I just thought the rain was so beautiful that I didn’t really care if it came across as a Kodak moment or not.

This is a satellite image (and now a street-level view [updated: 6/3/07]) of the exact spot I stood to take this photo. The dirt area to the left of the road is where we pulled off, and you can see the stream running alongside the road due West of this spot. GoogleMaps is awesome.

This was in a semi-ghost town we visited in Colorado.

Lounging

This is what our evenings consisted of in Colorado, for the most part.

Cherries

Cherries

I first shot this with some color Polaroid, but I underexposed the shot. So, having only that one sheet, I pulled out some Pola55. And while I wish the color shot had worked, I like this one quite a bit.

Lone Tree

This shot (really two shots) took me two hours to set up. The scratches were the least of my problems. I had to wash them in river water. Man, I’m tired.

Old To-Do List

We got back from Colorado (officially) tonight. Stayed in Midlothian last night, actually. I spent this afternoon/evening finally organizing my e-mail in Outlook. I had over 1400 e-mails in the inbox, 500+ of which were “unread”. So as I’m going through some of them, I came across this image from last year. Sure, it’s not fresh, but I’ll be posting pictures from Colorado soon enough.

Town Lake: Austin Power Plant

I really hope they leave the lettering on that building when it’s renovated.

Our vacation is coming to an end. I’m going to talk to another graduate photography professor today up in Boulder, and we’re probably going to shoot a little at Red Rocks (before or after, I haven’t decided). We leave for Texas early Saturday morning, and we’ll get to Midlothian early evening. Bummer.

Town Lake: Homes

Must be nice to live up there. If this is printed large, you might be able to tell that the little white speck is actually a swan.

I met with a photography professor for the graduate program at the University of Colorado in Boulder today. Let me just say that it really made me want to go to school there. Well, our talk, and the fact that the campus is gorgeous. And the cool weather. And the mountains. And the fresh air. Ok, so there are quite a few reasons.

Town Lake: Rope Swing

I loved swinging off these things in college. That was a major advantage to going to school in a town with a river flowing right through it.

Town Lake: Boats

These are the boats that people view the bats from when they escape the Congress Avenue bridge every night. We took this tour a few weeks ago with my in-laws… something we never would have done had they not been in town.

I LOVE COLORADO. We’re going rafting today. Enjoy work, suckers.=)
