Town Lake: At the Water

I don’t think I’d ever be able to print this image in the darkroom. The negative was far too thin.

I went down to Red Bud Isle to continue work on my Town Lake series in a new location a few days ago only to find it was a bit dark for my Tri-X 400 film in the Holga just before sunset. Still, it was a gorgeous bit of land that I’ll be sure to return to. Polly suggested I just shoot 3200 speed film for occasions like that.
Stacy and I will be leaving town tonight for Midlothian. We’ll be leaving the dogs there with her parents, and then heading to the Denver area (Pine, specifically) for over a week to spend with her aunt and uncle and just to enjoy the non-Texas landscape. I’ve tried to commit to shooting portraits during this trip, but that’ll be hard to keep.
I’ve loaded up the site with an image for each weekday, so hopefully I’ll have enough access to hop on and publish them each day. If I miss a day, make sure to check back the previous day because I’ll publish a few at a time.

My in-laws, Stacy and I went to San Antonio this past Saturday for the annual DCI Southwest Regional. I had planned to shoot a lot of parking lot photos of corps warming up, but this is the only shot I managed. This is the Santa Clara Vanguard marching into the Alamodome single file.

My wife probably couldn’t even stand within 10 feet of this toilet without gagging. It’s probably been out of commission for at least 50 years, but I’m not sure that’s kept people from using it. (No, not using using it.)
This is from my recent trip to a ghost town called Payton (Peyton?) Colony, Texas. It’s about 8 miles East of Blanco, and took quite awhile to set up all my shots. I shot 12 sheets of Tri-X 320 so I should have those up soon.

This latest trip to Town Lake wasn’t as fruitful as some of those taken earlier. However, it’s been overcast lately (finally!) so these are better conditions overall. But unfortunately, the conditions on the day I shot these two rolls was a bit too overcast and dark. Much of it didn’t come out.

I don’t normally do this, but I found the shot I posted a few hours ago to be so uninteresting, that rather than take it down, I chose to post a new one from the same roll. Hopefully a better one, in your opinion… but certainly in mine.
